Intesa Sanpaolo boasts a team of highly specialised experts, continuously updated on technical developments, with expertise honed by years of experience assessing R&D projects seeking facilitation or finance. These are the point of reference to whom Intesa Sanpaolo Group turns to support enterprises in their research, development and innovation.

Intesa Sanpaolo can thus effectively partner enterprises seeking to invest in the enrichment of the innovative and technological content of products and processes, whether through internal development of research and innovation projects or through the acquisition of the latest technologies on the market

The team has two operational methodologies:
•    state-facilitated interventions: Intesa Sanpaolo is an officially appointed institution for managing specific facilitations for research and development granted by Italy’s Ministry of Education, University and Research and by Italy’s Ministry of Economic Development
•    assessment of projects requiring bank financing through the product Nova+ , the financial instrument used by Intesa Sanpaolo Group for supporting investments in R&D

Managed facilitated interventions concern incentives in the form of non-repayable grant contributions and/or facilitated financing from ministerial funds or from the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (Deposits and Loans Fund), including planning instruments negotiated by the Ministries. These vary according to the characteristics of the announcements issued in each case by the Research Facilitation Fund (FAR) of the Education Ministry, and the Sustainable Growth Fund (FCS) of Italy’s Ministry of Economic Development.

Research Facilitation Fund Instituted by Ministerial Decree N°593 of 8 August 2000, it combines in a single directive the entire facilitating package that the Italian Ministry for Education, Universities and Research Ministry makes available to enterprises investing in R&D. The regulatory framework has recently been updated through Ministerial Decree N°115.
Following completion of the tender competition, Intesa Sanpaolo manages the assistance service of MIUR to ensure fulfilment of the technical and administrative procedures and assessments connected with the allocation of funding facilitations for industrial research*, pre-competitive development* and experimental development* covered by available funding from FAR and/or PON R&C 2007-2013, in compliance with applicable EU regulations.
FAR operates using 'over-the-counter'* and 'published call for applications'* methodologies; the latter kind of procedure being reserved in recent years for larger financial endowments, mainly for projects conducted in the convergence regions.*

Sustainable Growth Fund Instituted by the Legislative Decree "Growth 1" (Law N° 134 of 7 Aug 2012), it substitutes the FIT – Fund for Technological Innovation and aims to support:
-    Projects of research, development and innovation
-    Plans for strengthening the productive structure and reviving areas going through crises (Programme Agreements)
-    Company internationalisation plans and plans for attracting overseas investment, in agreement with the Italian Foreign Trade Institute (ICE).
-    Special Projects
Following completion of the tender process in 2014, Intesa Sanpaolo now manages the assistance service to the MiSE to ensure fulfilment of the technical and administrative procedures and assessments connected with the allocation, control and monitoring of the fund’s facilitations. In this Intesa Sanpaolo is working as part of a temporary joint venture between Italy's main banking groups and the National Research Council (CNR), which undertakes the technical/scientific assessments. In the first application invitation, the Fund’s facilitations are allocated in the form of discounted financing. Different forms of incentive are possible in the case of EU or regional co-financing. The first Fund interventions were implemented by means of published calls for applications.
In order to facilitate access to businesses, the authorised bodies created an online portal (fondocrescitasostenibile) that facilitates the drafting of documents and completion of the subsequent steps.
